Westringia fruticosa 'Variegata', commonly known as variegated coastal rosemary, is a hardy, evergreen Australian native shrub with attractive green and cream/white foliage.
It is known for its versatility, ability to withstand harsh conditions (including salt spray, wind, and drought), and low maintenance requirements, making it ideal for coastal gardens, borders, and hedges.
Key Characteristics and Growing Conditions
Foliage: The plant features fine, narrow leaves that are variegated with shades of green and creamy white, providing year-round visual interest and colour contrast in the garden.
Flowers: Small, dainty white or pale blue flowers, often with purple specks, appear in the leaf axils, primarily from late winter through summer, attracting butterflies and native bees.
Size: The shrub typically grows to about 1 to 1.5 metres in height and width reaching around 45cm.
Conditions: It thrives in a position with full sun to part shade and prefers well-draining soil, though it tolerates a wide range of soil types, including sandy and heavy clay soils, as long as it's not waterlogged. It is highly salt-tolerant and can handle frost and heat.
